Since joining Hepatitis Queensland in April 2024, Mikayla has brought a dedicated passion for public health to her role. With a deep-seated interest in improving community well-being, she is committed to making a meaningful impact for those in need.

Mikayla’s journey into this vital sector reflects both her professional aspirations and personal dedication to promoting health equity and education.

When did you start at Hepatitis Queensland?

April 2024.

What excites you about your role?

Working with a team who cares so much about what they do! I am excited to learn as much as I can from the team, and I am grateful to be contributing to the already amazing work that Hepatitis Queensland does.

What’s something you’ve learned in the past week?

Hep C antibody testing! So quick and easy!

What interests you about working in health?

I was drawn to public health as it fascinates me how every aspect of our lives influences our well-being. Factors such as where you live and how you’re brought up play such a significant role in your health. I’m passionate about understanding these connections and using that knowledge to help as many people as possible achieve better health outcomes.

What’s the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I’ve worked at Alexandra Headland Surf Club, where I taught school groups to be safe in the water as part of the surf awareness program.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I love to be outdoors, hanging out with the people that I love.

Who inspires you?

I get my inspiration from those around me. I always try and be better and do better and I think that there is an opportunity to be inspired by all.

What’s a fun fact about you people may not know?

I was born in Canada.

What three words best describe you?

Caring, energetic and hardworking.
