New campaign encourages Queenslanders to get tested for hepatitis C
A new pilot campaign has launched in Queensland to encourage people at risk of hepatitis C, particularly men over 45 who do not currently inject drugs, to get tested and access treatment.
Running from Monday 10 November to Friday 12 December 2025, the digital advertising campaign will be visible across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and websites, targeting people in Brisbane North, the Gold Coast, and Toowoomba.
Led by Hepatitis Australia, in collaboration with Hepatitis Queensland, the Burnet Institute, ASHM, and the Centre for Social Research in Health (UNSW), the campaign aims to challenge misconceptions and stigma around hepatitis C and improve testing rates among people who may not see themselves as at risk.
While hepatitis C is often linked to injecting drug use, most people living with the virus (84%) no longer inject or contracted it in other ways. Stigma can make it harder for people to access information, testing, and care, and health professionals may overlook testing opportunities because of these assumptions.
This campaign supports Australia’s goal to eliminate hepatitis C as a public health threat by 2030 by engaging groups who have may not have been reached previously.
