Stigma, Discrimination, and Injecting Drug Use

9 May, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Want to know more about working well with people who inject drugs?

Want to learn how to improve health outcomes for people who inject drugs?

QuIHN (QLD Injectors Health Network) will be conducting a free training workshop for health & community professionals on Stigma, Discrimination & Injecting Drug Use.

The workshop aims to support improved health outcomes for people who inject drugs (PWID), and increase the quality of engagement between PWID and health care service providers.

‘Putting Together the Puzzle: Stigma, Discrimination and Injecting Drug Use’ is developed by the Australian Injecting & Illicit Drug Users League (AIVL) and made possible through funding by the QLD Mental Health Commission (QMHC). Underpinned by research evidence, this comprehensive workshop utilises interactive activities and real-life examples to address relevant issues without guilt, ‘finger-pointing’ or voyeurism. Participants have the opportunity to question community stereotypes, language and the media.

The workshop has been designed to allow participants to develop personal, organisational & community strategies which can be utilised to address stigma and discrimination against people who use or have used drugs, people living with blood borne viruses and people on opioid replacement therapy.

WHO: All interested health & community professionals (GP’s, nurses, psychologists, social workers, allied health workers, community workers, pharmacists, family workers, AOD workers and students)
