Sexual Health First Aid Workshop
23 March, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
This workshop is designed to equip you with the basic knowledge and skills to respond to someone in immediate need. The workshop teaches skills to deliver immediate assistance to “do no harm”:
- Preserve the sexual health and well-being of the individual
- Prevent the worsening of the individual’s sexual health and well-being
- Promote the process of recovery and restoration of good sexual health and well-being
The workshop does not intend to teach skills for the treatment or diagnosis of sexual health problems, but rather offers perspectives on initial responses to people in need, and where appropriate, until referrals to specialised services can be made. Sexual health issues are common, causing anxiety, confusion or distress. Many people may delay seeking professional assistance, either through fear or embarrassment, through ignorance of its severity or impact, and uncertainty as to the appropriate support available.
This course is designed for those who form the first point of contact who in the course of their daily lives are likely to be approached for support and assistance:telephone counsellors, School and community nurses, youth workers, indigenous health workers, General Practitioners, school teachers, counsellors and parents.
