Our Services

Hepatitis Qld is a not-for-profit, non-government community organisation providing a number of services for people affected by, or at risk of, viral hepatitis (see below).  If you do not live in Queensland you can contact the local Hepatitis Council in your state or territory.  The national peak body is Hepatitis Australia, and they are based in Canberra.

Telephone Information and Support Service (TISS)

The TISS line provides confidential and non-judgmental information and support for people at risk of, or affected by, viral hepatitis. Hepatitis Queensland can provide referrals to other organisations or services that may assist with your concerns. Callers may request free printed publications on a range of related issues. Hepatitis Queensland acknowledges that appropriate support and information can often be difficult to access in regional and remote areas, and provides a 1300 HEP ABC (1300 437 222) number for callers throughout Queensland.

Clinical Counselling

Hepatitis Queensland provides a free counselling service with a qualified and experienced psychologist. Appointments are available for face-to-face counselling, and for telephone counselling for regional, rural and remote callers. Please telephone the TISS line to make an appointment.

Information Resources

Hepatitis Queensland is the major supplier of printed resources to people affected by hepatitis and to primary health care workers throughout Queensland. A comprehensive collection of resources based on issues associated with viral hepatitis is available from the Hepatitis Queensland. Most resources are free of charge, although Hepatitis Queensland reserves the right to charge for postage for bulk resources.

Education & Training Services

Hepatitis Queensland can provide education and training sessions to employers, health care professionals, community based organisations and community groups, government and non-government departments and private enterprise. Trained educators can provide staff and consumers with appropriate, up-to-date knowledge and skills for responding to various issues about viral hepatitis. Sessions can be individually tailored for small or large groups, and to meet the needs and demands of particular audiences.

Support Groups and Information Evenings

Support & Information evenings for people affected by viral hepatitis are sometimes held at Hepatitis Queensland premises - Suite 2, 12 Cordelia Street, South Brisbane, and other locations. Hepatitis Queensland facilitates regular meetings of daytime and evening Support Groups and provides Information Evenings for people whose lives are affected by viral hepatitis. These Support Groups and Information Sessions aim to provide a range of informative sessions, discussion and peer support, with up-to-date information and occasional guest speakers in a comfortable, supportive and confidential environment. Partners, friends and families are welcome. Support Group details are available from the Hepatitis Queensland website or office. Hepatitis Queensland can provide details about similar support networks in regional areas of Queensland, as well as information about community activities and health promotion events.

Newsletter

Hepatitis Queensland produces a quarterly newsletter, The Hep Factor, which is distributed to Hepatitis Queensland members. The newsletter contains up-to-date information of interest to people affected by viral hepatitis, including current details about Hepatitis Queensland activities, and other news. Readers’ contributions and feedback are always welcomed.
